About

A lifelong resident of the Ozarks.

The themes I explore are rooted in life in the 417 area code. Everyday items, places, and spaces we interact with. The cityscapes/landscapes we traverse through daily without stopping to give much consideration as well as the hills, valleys, lakes, and streams that encompass our area. My work examines these places under magic-filled eyes. The medium of choice is acrylic paint; it allows me to respond quickly to the subject, layering in color and building shapes as I move through my observations of the subject. I love to express beauty and liveliness through slightly over-saturated colors, exaggerated lines, and proportions. This allows a story to unfold on the canvas that relates to somewhat of an Ozarks-style fairytale or spinning a yarn if you will.

As a lifelong resident of the Ozarks, I am aware of the rich history of our area. Especially the stories passed down through my family who were some of the earliest settlers to the Ozarks. I feel a strong responsibility to preserve our area’s natural habitat and history through conservation and preservation. This care for our land was instilled in me at an early age as I watched my Grandparents. They would forage for native nuts, fruits, and berries. For what they could not find my Grandparents would tend to large gardens, producing an abundance of vegetables. My Grandmother also had fruit trees and grapevines that she harvested from. She would can vegetables, jam, and jelly preserves. My childhood was filled with wonderful life lessons from the strongest and hardiest Ozarkians I knew. I only hope I can continue to teach those valuable lessons I learned and share their love of our area with future generations through my work.
